-Pre-release review by Don Zaros-
Recently, I had the pleasure of getting an early copy of the latest offering from Lunarsapian.
From the opening atmospheric introduction of "Stagnant Reality" I was hooked! The album has a plethora of styles of metal within to satisfy every lover of metal: BM, DBM, Death, Doom....
As a keyboardist I was biased towards liking the tracks with the ambient touches and flourishes. "The Ever Winding Path" offers an excellent source of breath between the harsher tracks with the DBM/BM vocals. Another trait of the music that I particularly enjoyed was the almost drudging droning of the guitar phrasing: hypnotic yet extreme.
For me, the title track is the winner here. The track opens with a engaging string progression that cleverly merges with the abrasive guitars and depressive, almost desperate vocals culminating in a mixture of melancholy and disgust (at least that's what I felt!).
As a whole "A Slow, Painful Life" is a very well thought out, consistent listen if you are a fan of any of the afore-mentioned styles of metal. Take a step into these dark waters; you will not be disappointed! 5/5
